The Osun State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has filed a petition with the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Abba, against the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, for allegedly assaulting a legal practitioner, Muideen Yusuf.
According to the petition, Yusuf was executing a court judgment when Egbedun obstructed the process and physically assaulted him.
The NBA claims that Egbedun’s actions are punishable under various sections of the Criminal Code, including obstruction of justice, contempt of court, and assault.
The petition states that Yusuf, a counsel for the Gbaemu Royal family, was executing a judgment in favor of his client when Egbedun arrived at the scene and halted the process.
Despite identifying himself as a lawyer, Yusuf was allegedly attacked by Egbedun’s aides, leaving him battling for his life.
The NBA has called for a thorough investigation into the incident and prosecution of those involved, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
