Veteran actor, Olu Jacobs dies at 84

Veteran Nigerian actor, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

 

Jacobs’ wife and fellow veteran actress, Joke Silva, and their son announced his death on social media on Wednesday.

 

According to the family, the celebrated actor, whom they described as the “Lion of Lufodo”, died on September 16, 2026.

 

“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.

 

“Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR). 11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026,” the family said in the announcement.

 

The family appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy as they mourn the death of the veteran actor.

 

“We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time,” the statement added.

 

Jacobs, who celebrated his 84th birthday on July 11, was one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, with a career spanning theatre, television and film.

 

He was born on July 11, 1942, and became a prominent figure in Nigeria’s performing arts industry through his work on stage and screen.

 

His death marks the passing of one of the enduring figures of Nigeria’s acting profession, whose career helped shape generations of theatre and film audiences.
