Osogbo High Court sentences killers of Youth Corper to death

From John Dike, Osogbo

An Osogbo High Court has sentenced three persons to death for robbing and killing a National Youth Service Corps member, Adebayo Mukalia.

The convicts, Jelli Kareem, Oludayo Oludele, and Awodeji Muyiwa, were found guilty of conspiring to commit the crime on January 28, 2020, in Omo West Area, Osogbo.

The prosecution, led by Muyiwa Ogunleye, called four witnesses, including the 10-year-old daughter of the deceased, who witnessed the crime.

The defense counsel argued that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

However, Justice Adedapo Adeniji ruled that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the trio to death.

The fourth defendant, Anifowose Buliaminu, was discharged and acquitted for receiving stolen recharge cards.

The convicts were found guilty of conspiracy, robbery, murder, and possession of firearms, which contravened sections 316, 319, and 324 of the Criminal Code Law and section 27 of the Robbery and Firearms Act.
