The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising residents of Akure for months.

The suspects, Amubieya Emmanuel (26) and Ogunmola Akintola (26), were apprehended on February 25, 2025 by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team in Ondo Town.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had been actively involved in a series of robbery incidents in Akure since August 2024.

In a press release signed by the PPRO, it was disclosed that their modus operandi involved targeting female victims at night, particularly around 10pm.

Odunlami-Omisanya stated that, using a Toyota Camry, they would offer rides, then drive victims to secluded locations where they robbed them of their mobile phones and money.

She noted that: “The suspects forced victims to transfer funds at gunpoint, though it was later discovered that the weapon they used was a toy gun.

“During their arrest, police recovered several items, including the Toyota Camry used in their operations, a knife, an iron rod, and the toy gun.

“The suspects, who had been on the police watchlist, have confessed to their crimes, and investigations are ongoing to track down any other accomplices.”

The Ondo State Police Command has reassured residents of its commitment to safety and security.
