Yoruba race ‘ll miss Pa Fasoranti – Ondo NUJ

By Our Reporter

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has said the Yoruba race will greatly miss the late elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, describing him as a symbol of exemplary leadership, integrity and selfless service.

The council, in a condolence statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, and Secretary, Comrade Olaoluwa Meshack, on Tuesday, commiserated with the Ondo State Government and the people of the state over the death of the centenarian.

Fasoranti, a respected leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, died at his residence in Akure, Ondo State, five months after celebrating his 100th birthday on May 11, 2026.

The NUJ described the late elder statesman as an embodiment of wisdom, integrity and selfless service, whose century-long life was marked by an unwavering commitment to the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.

According to the council, Fasoranti distinguished himself as a prominent figure in Nigerian society by upholding the traditional Yoruba values of Omoluabi, particularly service, integrity, discipline and responsible leadership.

It noted that the late Afenifere leader remained a steadfast advocate of justice and good governance throughout his lifetime, adding that his contributions to democratic development and the political advancement of the South-West would remain indelible.

The council also described Fasoranti as a democracy activist and one of the last great titans of the progressive political tradition associated with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

It said his death had created a significant vacuum in the political family of the South-West, particularly among those committed to the ideals of good governance, justice and the unity of the Yoruba people.

The NUJ further extended its condolences to the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti; the entire Fasoranti family; the people of Akure Kingdom; the Ondo State Government and the people of the state, as well as the Yoruba race.

The council described the deceased patriarch as a selfless disciplinarian whose commitment to Yoruba unity and Nigeria’s progress remained exemplary, praying that God would grant his family and all those mourning him the fortitude to bear the loss.
