The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has suspended its planned picketing of the office of Owena Press, publishers of The Hope newspaper.

The protest, initially scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025, was called off following a peaceful resolution of the issues that triggered the action.

In a statement signed by the NUJ Chairman, Leke Adegbite, and Secretary, Olaoluwa Meshack, the union disclosed that the resolution was reached after extensive dialogue involving journalists, Ondo State labour leaders, top government officials, and other stakeholders.

The key terms of the agreement included the reversal of the contentious redeployment of the Editor and other senior editorial staff of The Hope.

The union also secured a commitment from Owena Press to uphold public service regulations in its operations.

The NUJ reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of its members and ensuring that Owena Press continues to function effectively as a public media organisation.

The union expressed gratitude to all parties who intervened to mediate the dispute and bring about a peaceful outcome.

While suspending the planned picketing, the NUJ vowed to remain vigilant in protecting the rights and welfare of its members, ensuring that the agreed terms are implemented.
