The Ondo State Police Command has arrested five individuals in connection with the arson attack on the Divisional Police Station in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area.
According to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, the violence erupted after a clash between two families spiralled out of control, leading to widespread destruction.
He disclosed that several homes were set ablaze, and tensions escalated when a suspect detained during the chaos tragically died in police custody.
Afolabi stated that outraged residents took to the streets in protest, culminating in the police station being torched.
Commissioner Afolabi strongly condemned the attack, warning against mob justice and urging the community to trust the legal system.
“Taking the law into one’s own hands only breeds more violence,” he stated.
He reassured the public that a full investigation is underway, with the arrested suspects now in custody at police headquarters.
He revealed that the Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with leading the inquiry.
Afolabi called for calm, emphasising the need for civility and adherence to due process in resolving disputes.
