In a brutal midnight assault, suspected armed herdsmen have attacked four farming communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving over 20 people dead.

The affected villages, Pastor Camp, Sunday Village, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camp, all within Ala Elefosan, were thrown into chaos as the assailants stormed in, unleashing terror on defenceless residents.

According to local sources, these violent incursions have become increasingly frequent, with herders allegedly targeting rural communities and killing farmers with impunity.

A source revealed that within the past 48 hours, 14 bodies had been recovered, while frantic searches continue for missing persons.

Reports suggest that more than 20 individuals lost their lives during the latest onslaught.

Confirming the attacks, the Regent of Ademekun Village, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, expressed deep sorrow over the massacre, lamenting that her community had been under siege from armed herdsmen for some time.

She criticised the lack of decisive intervention from security agencies, stating that the attackers infiltrated the villages through the Edo-Ondo boundary.

In response, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya assured that security forces are working diligently to track down the perpetrators and bolster protection for other communities in Akure North.
