The Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has established a fact-finding committee to investigate the taxation and operational disputes between the Osun State Government and Segilola Resources Operating Limited, owned by Thor Explorations Limited.

This move aims to resolve the conflict and restore industrial harmony.

Led by Dr. Mary Ogbe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, the committee comprises representatives from the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.

Announcing members of the committee in Abuja on Friday, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, emphasised the Federal Government’s efforts to attract foreign investments in the solid minerals sector.

He warned that subnational closures of mining operations could discourage foreign direct investments and lead to divestment.

According to him: “Mining is on the exclusive legislative list. The Ministry of Solid Minerals should be consulted before such disruptive actions are taken.”

Dr. Alake reiterated the Federal Government’s goal to boost economic growth, employment, and community development through productive activities.

He urged both parties to cooperate with the fact-finding team and maintain production during the dispute resolution.

The Minister appealed to Osun State Governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, and Thor Exploration Limited’s management to prioritize peace and industrial harmony, considering the potential impact on workers and their dependents.

This development comes as the Federal Government seeks to harness solid mineral resources efficiently and effectively.

The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is working to address illegal mining activities and promote sustainable development in the sector.
