In a stunning political development, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement came on Wednesday evening following a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba, the state capital.

Confirming the move, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, revealed that the decision was made after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP banner, was warmly received by senior APC officials, marking what observers are calling a major political realignment in the state.

Analysts believe the defection could have far-reaching implications as the nation begins to look ahead to the 2027 general elections.
