The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that 20 farmers were killed in an attack on four communities within the state. In a statement issued on 10th March 2025, the police described the report as misleading and urged media outlets to verify information from official sources before publication.
According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ala received intelligence regarding an attack on Sunday Camp, a settlement along the Ondo-Edo border, on 8th March 2025. However, the police insisted that they never confirmed the alleged killing of 20 farmers, contrary to some reports circulating in the media.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has reportedly ordered an intensified covert operation across the state to flush out criminal elements. The command reassured residents that security forces are actively working to maintain law and order in the affected areas.
The police urged journalists and media organisations to ensure accuracy in their reporting to prevent the spread of misinformation and unnecessary panic among the public.
