The Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to attracting investments as a catalyst for economic growth and development.
Speaking at a high-level meeting with the management board of Sahara Energy in Akure on Tuesday, Governor Aiyedatiwa underlined Ondo State’s readiness to provide a conducive environment for investors to thrive.
This announcement follows the federal government’s licensing of Sahara Energy, through the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), to manage two newly allocated oil fields, PPL 270 and PPL 271, located in the riverine communities of Ilaje Local Government Area.
Expressing his gratitude to Sahara Energy for their willingness to invest in Ondo State, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the development as a significant step towards unlocking the state’s economic potential.
“Ondo State is fortunate at this time. Although licences are issued by the federal government, we assure you of our full support to ensure your activities flourish. We remain committed to maintaining Ondo as the safest state in the country and fostering an investor-friendly climate,” he said.
The governor stressed that comprehensive development cannot be achieved solely through government efforts and reiterated his administration’s openness to partnerships with private sector investors.
He called on the host communities to cooperate with Sahara Energy, emphasising that their support is crucial for the smooth operation of the company and the collective benefit of the state and its people.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Sahara Energy, Engr. Funsho Kupolokun, acknowledged the importance of securing the state government’s backing before commencing operations.
“We are here to share good news with the Ondo State government, and it must begin with His Excellency.
“Before commencing operations, we seek the governor’s permission and blessings to ensure a smooth working relationship with the state,” Kupolokun stated.
Kupolokun, a native of Ondo State and former Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for creating a welcoming environment for investors.
He assured the governor that Sahara Energy would strictly adhere to all state regulations, further strengthening its partnership with the government and local communities.
Key state officials present at the meeting included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philips; and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN.
