Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa addressed a gathering of honorable guests, children, and dignitaries at the 2024 Children’s Day Celebration in Akure, Ondo State on Monday.
The theme, “Building a Brighter Future for Our Children,” resonated deeply with the administration’s commitment to prioritizing children’s welfare and well-being.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that children are not just future leaders but the architects of tomorrow’s world.
He stressed the collective responsibility to provide them with necessary tools, opportunities, support, and guidance to flourish and succeed. This requires concerted efforts in investing in education, healthcare, safety, and conducive environments.
He revealed that the current administration has initiated programmes and policies to secure a brighter future for children. These include recruiting additional teachers, resuscitating the School Shuttle Programme, paying WAEC registration fees, recruiting health workers, and administering the Human Papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine.
He, however, noted that building a brighter future requires more than government actions alone. It demands collective efforts from families, communities, and society. Leading by example, instilling core values, and protecting children from violence and abuse are essential.
Aiyedatiwa noted that his administration is committed to promoting and empowering institutions like Family (Children) Courts to observe children’s rights.
According to him: “Abusers of children’s rights will be prosecuted, especially those involved in sexual and dehumanizing abuses.”
Teachers were charged by the Governor to be models of moral excellence and sources of protection for children’s rights.
Children were equally urged to be security conscious, vigilant, and bold enough to report suspicious movements or abuse.
As the gubernatorial election approaches, Governor Aiyedatiwa reminded everyone that no one’s blood is worthy of election into office, promising that canvassing for votes will be done honorably, without thuggery and molestation.
Political gladiators and followers were also admonished to operate within the bounds of decency and law.
In conclusion, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the continuation of child-friendly policies and programmes to prepare children to dominate the global space.
Children were charged not to yield to pressure to get involved in political thuggery that can truncate their brighter future.
