A significant breakthrough has been achieved in the investigation into the murder of Mr Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 5 Chairman in Ifon, as the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, has apprehended a suspect linked to the brutal killing.

The Commander of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this development on Monday, while parading 32 suspected criminals at the agency’s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.

He revealed that the suspect confessed during interrogation and led operatives to a shallow grave where Mr Adepoyigi’s decomposed body was exhumed.

He informed newsmen that the remains of the murdered APC Chairman have since been released to the family and buried.

The late Adepoyigi was abducted in front of his home in Ifon on Monday, May 13, 2025, and despite the payment of a N5 million ransom, his abductors refused to release him as expected, confirming fears that he had been killed.

Commander Adeleye, while addressing journalists, restated the commitment of Amotekun to safeguarding lives and property in Ondo State, noting a recent decline in kidnapping incidents.

He said operatives remain stationed in forest reserves and border areas, particularly in Akure North, which had previously been plagued by violent attacks from criminal herdsmen.

He encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity via the agency’s emergency line or by reaching out to nearby security formations.
