President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for 27th–28th January, 2025.

The high-profile gathering, hosted by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, aims to advance “Mission 300,” a continental initiative seeking to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

The summit will bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society groups to strategise on accelerating energy access across the continent.

Discussions will centre on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilising private sector investment to address Africa’s persistent energy deficit, particularly in underserved regions.

A key highlight of the first day will be ministerial-level presentations, where participating nations, including Nigeria, will outline their national energy strategies referred to as compacts detailing their approaches to achieving universal energy access within five years.

On the second day, Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified roadmap guiding Africa’s progress towards Mission 300.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership role in the continent’s energy sector.

He will also showcase Nigeria’s clean energy initiatives and its strategy for driving integrated energy delivery across Africa.

Accompanying the President on this crucial visit are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja following the conclusion of the summit.
