President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman for being named the 2024 CAF Men’s African Footballer of the Year, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for securing the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, and the Super Falcons for earning the title of Women’s National Team of the Year.
The accolades were announced on Monday evening at the prestigious CAF Awards ceremony held at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu joins millions of Nigerians in celebrating the achievements.
President Tinubu lauded the athletes as exemplary ambassadors of Nigeria, recognising their outstanding talent and their role in bringing honour to the nation on both continental and global stages.
He expressed his belief that this recognition by Africa’s premier football authority would serve as inspiration for aspiring athletes to persevere in their pursuits.
The President emphasised that the athletes’ success reflects their determination, discipline, and confidence, qualities that align with his administration’s commitment to building a thriving and successful Nigeria.
“These athletes embody the essential Nigerian spirit. “They represent the very best of us as a nation. Let no one ever underestimate our potential. I am incredibly proud of them,” the President remarked.
The President also expressed gratitude for their contributions, adding, “Thank you for making Nigeria proud and for keeping our flag flying. Thank you for winning medals for Nigeria both at home and abroad. You will achieve even greater victories in the future.”
