The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Enu-Owa Division, Ondo City, CSP Komolafe Omoniyi, following what the Command described as unprofessional handling of a recent case involving popular social media influencer, Adefolarin Ayomiposi, popularly known as Mandykiss.
The decision came after a video surfaced online showing the influencer recording and taking photographs of suspects while they were in police custody at the Enu-Owa Police Division in Ondo town.
The footage, which sparked widespread public outrage, prompted the State Police Command to conduct an internal review of the incident.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, preliminary findings revealed that no police personnel were involved in the initial arrest.
The suspects identified as Mrs Akinwole Sabitu and her daughter, Miss Akinwole Oyindamola, were reportedly tracked and apprehended by Mandykiss with the help of her online followers over alleged cyberbullying.
The statement added that the influencer recorded a video inside her vehicle while conveying the suspects to the station, and upon arrival, handed them over to the police.
However, she proceeded to take their photographs within the station premises and uploaded them on social media, a move described by the Command as contrary to police procedures and a violation of the suspects’ right to the presumption of innocence.
Describing the development as a serious breach of professionalism and supervisory failure, CP Lawal directed the immediate redeployment of the DPO, Komolafe Omoniyi, stressing that the Command would not tolerate any act capable of undermining public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner reiterated that recording or photographing suspects in custody constitutes a violation of ethical and procedural guidelines, and warned officers to remain impartial, disciplined, and professional in all dealings, ensuring the protection of rights for both suspects and complainants.
He further emphasised that the conduct of the affected officer does not represent the discipline, integrity, or core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
CP Lawal reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining accountability and discipline across the Command and expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his exemplary leadership and continuous support in promoting professionalism and operational excellence within the Force.
