Ondo State Government has called for calm among residents following the circulation of a leaked security memo from the Department of State Services (DSS), which warned of a possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday,  October 22, 2025, by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, the government confirmed awareness of the memo addressed to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure.

The statement clarified that the document formed part of routine intelligence sharing between security agencies and was not an indication of any immediate threat to public safety.

According to Ajanaku, such intelligence reports are a normal aspect of security operations aimed at identifying and preventing potential dangers.

He explained that the reports, which often contain varying levels of threat assessment, guide joint operations among security formations and government authorities to enhance vigilance and adopt proactive measures.

“The public can be assured that these reports are being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies, and necessary precautions are being taken to ensure safety and security.

“The emphasis remains on maintaining vigilance and cooperation between security agencies and the government to prevent and respond to any potential threats,” the statement read.

The government appealed to residents to remain calm and go about their normal daily activities while staying alert and reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency.

It also warned against panic or taking the law into one’s hands.

Ajanaku reaffirmed that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains in constant communication with security agencies to safeguard lives and property, particularly in border communities.

He stressed that all measures are being taken to maintain Ondo State’s reputation as one of the safest in the country.

“Once again, we appeal to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide any information that may help prevent any threat in any part of the state,” the statement concluded.
