Ondo Police foil alleged ritual plot, arrest mother, son in Ile-Oluji

Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over an alleged attempt to engage in ritual activity in Ile-Oluji, Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest, which took place on December 27, 2025, was carried out by operatives of the Command’s SWAT Tactical Team following credible intelligence received from a concerned member of the public.

Police sources said the tip-off indicated a suspected ritual-related plan in the community, prompting swift action by the operatives.

The operation led to the arrest of a 53-year-old woman, identified as Maria, and her 28-year-old son, Adewale.

A 10-year-old boy, who was allegedly at risk, was rescued during the operation and taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to engage the services of an herbalist in connection with a money-making ritual.

The police said both suspects are currently in custody and have reportedly made statements in connection with the case.

They are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, said the success underscored the importance of intelligence-led policing in preventing crime before it occurs.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.

CP Lawal advised parents, particularly mothers, to shun criminal activities and serve as positive role models to their children.

He also cautioned youths against the pursuit of quick wealth, urging them to embrace hard work, diligence and integrity as pathways to success.

The Command called on residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to ensuring a safer society.
