A philanthropist, Chief Akindele Omole, on Monday donated a snooker board to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, as part of efforts to support journalists and promote their welfare.

The donation was formally presented at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, where Chief Omole, the Bobaselu of Odigbo Kingdom said the gesture reflected his commitment to the well-being of media practitioners in the state.

He described journalists as critical stakeholders in nation-building, stressing that providing recreational facilities would help them relax and remain refreshed for the demanding nature of their profession.

The chartered accountant said the donation was also his personal way of strengthening the relationship between the traditional institution and the media, noting that a cordial partnership between both sectors was essential for community development, peace and good governance.

In his response, the Chairman of the NUJ, Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, expressed deep appreciation to the Bobaselu for the thoughtful gesture, describing him as a consistent supporter of the union.

He commended Chief Omole for his continuous identification with journalists in the state and for always responding positively to initiatives that promote their welfare.

Adegbite said the snooker board would enhance the recreational facilities at the Press Centre and provide journalists with a healthy means of relaxation after work.

He urged other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the goodwill displayed by the Bobaselu in supporting the activities of the NUJ and the media profession at large.

The event was attended by members of the NUJ State Executive Council, some elders in the union, and other stakeholders in the media industry.

The donation also signals the commencement of billiards (snooker) as one of the games listed for the ongoing 2025 NUJ Press Week Games in Ondo State.
