The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to a violent attack and robbery against Fuji musician, Abass Akande Obesere, during a burial ceremony at the Government Field in Okitipupa.

The arrests followed swift police action after credible intelligence indicated that the musician was assaulted while performing at the event.

According to findings by the Command, the incident occurred on November 21, when a group of hoodlums led by a man identified as Michael Abbey, popularly known as “Emir”, allegedly descended on Obesere mid-performance, stealing a bag reportedly containing ₦4 million, along with a gold chain, handset and wristwatch.

The situation worsened when the musician’s manager was stabbed in the hand with a broken bottle while attempting to intervene.

Police operatives, acting on the intelligence and details gathered during preliminary investigation, carried out targeted operations which led to the arrest of two key suspects, Michael Abbey and Oniye Oke.

Both suspects, the police said, confessed to their roles in the attack, and a total of ₦479,100 was recovered as part of the stolen proceeds.

The Command added that efforts were ongoing to track down the remaining members of the gang and to recover all outstanding exhibits connected to the robbery.

The Commissioner of Police, while expressing concern over rising incidents of hooliganism as the festive season approaches, warned that the Command would not tolerate any form of violent conduct, thuggery or lawlessness.

He assured residents that every individual involved in the Okitipupa attack would be brought to justice.

The Ondo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining a secure environment across the state.
