Breaking News: Osun 2026: Adeleke wins 19 LGAs as Oyebamiji takes 11

By David Akinadewo-Adekahunsi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, with the Accord Party candidate and incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke, winning in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, won the remaining 11.

The results were collated at the INEC State Collation Centre in Osogbo, the state capital, from late Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday.

Adeleke secured victories in Boluwaduro, Ede South, Ife North, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Orolu, Osogbo, Oriade, Odo-Otin, Ife East, Ifelodun, Iwo, Ede North, Ila, Aiyedire, Egbedore, Aiyedaade and Ejigbo.

Oyebamiji, however, won in Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West, Irewole, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ola-Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.

The final local government spread gives Adeleke a clear numerical advantage, having won nearly two-thirds of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji secured victories in 11 councils.

The collation was supervised by the Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, who headed the collation team.

The conclusion of the local government collation brings the closely contested election to the final stage, with attention now focused on the final aggregate votes scored by the 15 candidates and the formal declaration of the winner by the Returning Officer.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord platform, sought re-election after serving his first term as governor, while Oyebamiji represented the APC in the keenly contested poll.

The election was conducted across the state’s 3,763 polling units, with voters turning out in large numbers in several parts of the state.

With the collation now concluded across all 30 local government areas, the final figures are expected to determine whether Adeleke’s spread across 19 councils will translate into an overall victory and a fresh mandate, or whether Oyebamiji’s strong showing in 11 local government areas will be sufficient to overturn the incumbent’s advantage.

The official declaration by the Returning Officer will provide the definitive outcome of the election.
