The Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Ondo State chapter, has expressed gratitude to God and commended the combined efforts of security agencies, local vigilantes, and the state government for the safe rescue of one of its members, Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, who was abducted by gunmen in Owo, Ondo State.
Akesinro, a Medical Laboratory Scientist at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, was kidnapped on Thursday, at his residence in Upenme, Owo Local Government Area.
His rescue was confirmed by the union on Saturday, following what it described as “outstanding gallantry” by the security operatives and community support groups involved in the operation.
In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Comrade Elusoji E. O., the union applauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for “taking charge as the Chief Security Officer of the state” during the incident, while also appreciating the Inspector-General of Police, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, local hunters and vigilante groups for their swift and coordinated response.
NUAHP also praised the management of FMC, Owo, for what it called a “show of concern and commitment” throughout the ordeal, and lauded the media for their role in raising awareness and sustaining public interest in the case.
The union, however, raised concerns about the rising spate of insecurity and kidnappings in Owo and surrounding areas, urging governments at all levels to intensify efforts in strengthening the nation’s security architecture.
“Kidnappings and insecurity within Owo and environs have become incessant and drastic measures must be put in place to safeguard the citizens. Almost everyone is a target,” the statement read.
It further extended appreciation to health workers across Nigeria, members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and well-meaning citizens whose prayers, solidarity and support were described as instrumental to Akesinro’s safe return.
NUAHP reaffirmed its commitment to continue advocating for the welfare, protection and security of its members, while praying for divine protection for all citizens.
