A dramatic escape by a kidnap victim who was pushed out of a moving vehicle has led to the arrest of a suspected abductor by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command in Akure.
The victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, was reportedly forced out of a red Toyota Camry by his abductors during a high-speed chase along the Oba-Ile axis of the state capital on Tuesday.
The desperate move by the suspects was said to be an attempt to evade arrest as police closed in on them.
Police sources said operatives, acting on credible intelligence that an individual was crying out for help from within a moving vehicle, swiftly mobilised and launched a coordinated pursuit of the car.
The intervention forced the suspects to eject the victim while attempting to escape.
Despite the development, the police team sustained the chase, which resulted in the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the gang fled the scene.
The vehicle used in the operation was also recovered.
Investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road, Akure, before the timely intervention of the police.
The victim has since been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect is said to be assisting investigators with useful information.
The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Akure for further investigation and efforts to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the оперативes for their swift response and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend all those involved in the crime, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.
