Ondo State Police Command has arrested and prosecuted two suspected leaders of a kidnapping syndicate linked to a series of abductions across several communities in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks and curbing violent crimes.

The suspects, identified as Bello Denge, 30, and Umar Isah, 25, were apprehended and later identified by no fewer than nine victims during a formal identification parade conducted at the Command Headquarters.

According to the police, the victims independently confirmed the suspects’ roles in multiple abduction incidents.

Investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal syndicate responsible for orchestrating kidnappings in communities including Iluabo, Eleyowo, Iju-Itaogbolu and Pelebe.

The gang reportedly targeted vulnerable individuals, particularly farmers operating in remote areas, thereby disrupting socio-economic activities and instilling fear among residents.

The police disclosed that upon the conclusion of investigations, the suspects were charged to court on April 30, 2026, on counts bordering on kidnapping and other violent offences.

They have since been remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Olokuta pending further legal proceedings.

The Command emphasised that prosecution remains a critical component of justice delivery, noting that it ensures accountability, strengthens the rule of law and provides victims with an avenue for redress.

It added that diligent prosecution of criminal suspects also serves as a deterrent to others.

Meanwhile, the police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large, assuring residents of continued operations to rid the state of criminal elements.

The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid ongoing investigations and enhance public safety.
