In a move to support the educational pursuits of students from Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the payment of bursaries and scholarships to students in tertiary institutions and Nigerian Law Schools.
The Governor made this announcement during a stakeholders meeting with student leaders at the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday.
The meeting, which was attended by representatives from various student associations, including NANS, NAUS, NAOSS, and others, saw the Governor address several pressing issues affecting students in the state.
These included the provision of buses for student bodies, enhancement of electricity supply and security on campuses, employment opportunities, and polling units on campuses.
Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the students that his administration would prioritize the education sector and the welfare of students and youths.
He promised to look into the other requests made by the student leaders and address them in the shortest possible time.
The student leaders, in a unified message, expressed their support for the Governor and promised not to participate in any planned protests in the state.
They highlighted several pressing issues but commended the Governor’s efforts to address their concerns.
The payment of bursaries and scholarships is expected to be completed in a few weeks, with disbursement to follow shortly after.
This move is seen as a significant step towards supporting the educational pursuits of students from Ondo State.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, confirmed the development in a statement released on July 30, 2024.
