In a bid to ensure public safety and security during the planned nationwide protest by the Take It Back Movement, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, held a virtual meeting with key members of the group, including Femi Falana (SAN) and Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), on Tuesday.
The meeting aimed to facilitate a peaceful and secure environment for the protests while upholding the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized the importance of maintaining public order and safety during the protests, acknowledging the group’s right to express their concerns through peaceful means.
To ensure a hitch-free protest, the IGP advised the Take It Back Movement to engage with respective State Police Commissioners to coordinate and plan the protests.
He stressed the need for organizing and coordinating with the Police and other security agencies to mitigate risks and protect the rights of all citizens.
IGP Egbetokun also strongly advised against unplanned open processions, citing potential dangers.
The Police Chief reiterated the Force’s dedication to protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring public gatherings are conducted safely and securely.
The meeting demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining public safety and security while respecting citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly.
Stakeholders are urged to work together to foster a peaceful environment during the planned protests.
