Akure traders protest alleged attack by soldiers

Pandemonium erupted in Akure on Saturday, as traders along Arakale road, protested the alleged stabbing of one of them to death by unknown soldiers.

The protest led to a halt of commercial activities and vehicular movement on the busy road, particularly in the Mobil area of Arakale axis.

The protesters alleged that the unknown men in Army uniform carried out the wicked act when one of them (soldier) mobilized his colleagues to forcefully collect some money he had paid for a service after a little argument.

It was gathered that the fracas led to the unidentified soldier stabbing one of the traders, which led to his death.

Speaking with newsmen, one of the traders said the soldiers also beat up family members of the late trader to coma.

The Arakale axis of the road was brought to standstill on Saturday, as the aggrieved traders blocked the road.

Commuters were stranded by this action as they found it difficult to do their businesses.

Policemen were however on ground to ensure that the issue did not escalate beyond expectations.

A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who was on ground declined to speak with journalists, insisting he must get express permission before he could comment on the matter.
