In a major boost to the education sector, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the employment of 1,010 new secondary school teachers in Ondo State.
This decision follows his commitment to tackling the persistent shortage of teachers in public schools, particularly in underserved rural areas.
The recruitment process, handled by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), saw thousands of applicants vying for positions last year.
Following rigorous screening, the final list of successful candidates has now been published.
From today, the names of the newly hired teachers will be available online, while physical copies will be displayed at TESCOM headquarters and zonal offices across the state from tomorrow.
Successful candidates are expected to commence their documentation immediately, ensuring a swift transition into the classroom.
This recruitment forms part of a broader initiative by the Aiyedatiwa administration, which had approved the hiring of 1,000 secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school teachers last year.
While the secondary school list has now been finalised, the selection process for primary school teachers is in its final stages.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has consistently expressed concern over the acute shortage of teachers, particularly in rural communities.
His directive ensured that the recruitment process prioritised schools with the greatest staffing needs, aligning with his broader vision of strengthening the education sector.
Beyond recruitment, the Governor has also demonstrated a commitment to supporting students.
Last week, he approved the release of ₦633 million for the registration of candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Additionally, his administration recently approved the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness, reinforcing his commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the state.
