Two labourers die inside well in Osun

Tragedy struck in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday, as two laborers died in a well while attempting to retrieve a fallen bucket used for fetching water at a construction site.

The incident occurred opposite Ilesa Motor Park along the Ife-Ilesa expressway.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the labourer entered the well to retrieve the fetcher but did not resurface, prompting the second labourer to attempt a rescue.

Unfortunately, the second labourer also got stuck and drowned.

The incident caused tension at the scene, and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Fire Service were contacted for assistance.

The spokesperson for NSCDC, Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed that the corpses of the laborers were retrieved from the well through a joint effort by NSCDC and Federal Fire Service operatives.

The identities of the victims, who were said to be middle-aged men from Iwo, were not disclosed.

The tragic incident highlights the importance of prioritizing safety measures in workplaces, especially in hazardous environments like construction sites and wells.
