Grief and disbelief have enveloped a family in Okitipupa, Ondo State, after a man allegedly killed three of his younger siblings in a brutal attack that has left their father devastated.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Tuesday, was confirmed by the Ondo State Police Command, which described the killings as “gruesome and deeply disturbing.”

According to police accounts, the father, Mr Agbeye, reported at the station that his 28-year-old son, Femi Agbeye, allegedly attacked his siblings with a machete in his absence.

The victims, Bose Agbeye (20), Dupe Agbeye (7), and Blessing Agbeye (5), were said to have been killed in the family home, turning what should have been a place of safety into a scene of horror.

Sources in the community said the father returned to a nightmare, discovering that three of his children had been brutally cut down, a loss described by residents as “too heavy for any parent to bear.”

Police operatives who responded to the report found the victims lifeless and evacuated their bodies to the State Specialists’ Hospital morgue in Okitipupa for preservation and autopsy.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said in a swift response, the suspect was apprehended the same day in a coordinated operation by security personnel.

He noted that the suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the incident, assuring the public that justice would be pursued and that the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on the suspect.

The shocking killings have sent waves of sorrow through Okitipupa, with residents expressing sympathy for the bereaved father, whose loss has sparked conversations around domestic violence, mental health and the need for early intervention in family crises.

As the community mourns, attention has turned to the grieving parent, now faced with the unimaginable pain of losing three children in a single, tragic episode allegedly involving another son.

Meanwhile, police authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and urged members of the public to report any signs of distress or potential violence within their communities to prevent similar tragedies.
