Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of a sex worker following a violent confrontation at a brothel in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025, has prompted a full-scale investigation by the Ondo State Police Command.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the altercation began after the sex worker reportedly experienced sudden physical weakness during an encounter with a male customer and was unable to continue providing her services.
The customer, angered by the development, allegedly demanded a refund of ₦15,000 and engaged in a heated argument with the woman, which later turned physical.
Despite attempts by the brothel manager and others to defuse the situation, the customer reportedly left the premises in anger, only to return shortly with a group of suspected miscreants in an apparent attempt to forcibly recover the money.
It was at this point that the brothel management alerted the police, prompting a swift response by a patrol team from ‘A’ Division.
Upon arrival, officers found the suspect and his accomplices confronting the victim.
While arrangements were made to rush the woman to a nearby hospital in the Lafe area, police operatives successfully arrested three of the suspects at the scene.
The victim was later referred to the Police Hospital in Akure, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her remains have been deposited at the State Specialists’ Hospital, Akure morgue for autopsy.
The police disclosed that two other suspects linked to the incident remain at large, and a manhunt is underway to bring them to justice.
The PPRO stated that the identities of those involved are being withheld pending further investigations.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.
He assured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible are held accountable and urged members of the public to remain calm and assist the police with any useful information.
The CP promised that upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court.
