President Bola Tinubu has sworn in seven new ministers, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to economic recovery.
At the inauguration ceremony held at the State House in Abuja on Monday, he expressed confidence in Nigeria’s economic progress, citing the country’s exit from bankruptcy and the cessation of resource exploitation by scavengers and smugglers.
The new ministers include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; and Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Other appointees are Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment; Mr. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education.
President Tinubu emphasised that Nigeria’s economic recovery is on track, despite challenges.
He highlighted the reduction of debt servicing from 97% to 65% of earned revenue and the implementation of a new minimum wage.
The President acknowledged global economic challenges but expressed determination to overcome them, citing efforts to reengineer and retool Nigeria’s economy.
“Nigeria’s recovery is expected to be driven by a rise in oil exports and domestic demand,” according to economic projections.
However, experts caution that high inflation and unemployment pose macroeconomic risks.
The President urged the new ministers to be committed and resilient, recognizing the critical timing of their appointment.
“The moment is challenging; the present situation calls for a very serious commitment,” he stated.
With these new appointments, President Tinubu’s administration aims to build on its economic progress and address Nigeria’s development challenges.
