Osun State Government has announced plans to comprehensively upgrade the Erin Ijesha Waterfalls and other tourist sites in the state.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the formation of a tripartite committee to manage the site and fast-track ongoing renewal initiatives.
According to the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the upgrade is part of the government’s comprehensive tourism agenda to boost the state’s economy.
The plan covers various tourist sites, including the Osun groove, Owala inland beach resort, Sango Timi Shrine, and Ayunkunnugba water falls.
The Commissioner noted that the management of the Erin-Ijesha Waterfall site is currently under the purview of the Erin Ijesha community to ensure localisation and boost the local cultural and tourism industry.
A tripartite meeting between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, and the leaders of Erin-Ijesha Community has been scheduled for August 14, 2024, to discuss further maintenance and development of the site.
The Commissioner assured the public that the Osun State government is committed to tourism development and has outlined it as one of its five-point agenda, welcoming public-private partnerships to achieve this goal.
