A massive illegal crude oil reservoir hidden deep within the forests of Obe-Akingboye in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State has been uncovered in a joint operation by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Army, and TANTITA Security Service.

The discovery, made on March 23, 2025 at approximately 2:12 pm, is a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against oil theft and economic sabotage in the region.

Despite the success of the operation, no arrests were made, as the suspects had already fled the scene before security forces arrived.

However, the NSCDC has declared a manhunt for the perpetrators, vowing to track them down and bring them to justice.

Ondo State NSCDC Commandant, CC Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, has issued a strong warning to individuals engaged in illegal petroleum dealings, urging them to abandon such activities or face the full weight of the law.

He reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding critical national assets, particularly within the solid minerals and petroleum sectors, which are vital to Nigeria’s economic stability.

“This operation is just the beginning. We will continue to enforce full compliance with the law and ensure zero tolerance for vandalism in Ondo State,” Ibiloye stated.

He, however, used the opportunity to call on the public to provide any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the vandals and help curb further criminal activities in the area.
