In a move to enhance road safety and security in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has directed the Ministry of Infrastructure to begin the rehabilitation of the alternative road into the campus of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

The Governor’s directive came after an unscheduled visit to the university on Saturday, where he assessed the challenges faced by students and was conducted around the main gate and alternative route by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Olugbenga Ige.

The alternative road has been in use since the main gate was shut due to frequent accidents resulting in loss of lives.

Despite previous efforts, the road has not been rehabilitated, prompting the Governor’s intervention.

Governor Aiyedatiwa ordered the repair of the road, promising to implement measures to improve infrastructure and security in and around the university.

He acknowledged the series of accidents near the university due to the road’s topography and announced plans to create alternative routes for heavy vehicles, which will be included in the state’s budget.

The Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to providing necessary infrastructure and amenities to support the university community, comprising over 20,000 students, and enhance their safety and quality of life.

The rehabilitation of the alternative road is expected to improve access to the university campus and reduce the risk of accidents, providing a safer environment for students, staff, and visitors.
