Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has reportedly passed away in London after a prolonged battle with severe heart failure and complications arising from urinary cancer.
A source close to the former governor disclosed that Obiano’s health had deteriorated significantly over the past months.
“His health had been declining in the past months. The final collapse came suddenly. We are devastated,” the family source said.
Another source confirmed that medical officials in London had placed the former governor under intensive care before his condition worsened.
A hospital insider was quoted as saying: “He fought till the very last moment.”
A formal announcement from the Obiano family and the Anambra State Government is expected in due course.
Chief Obiano served two consecutive terms as Governor of Anambra State before handing over to the incumbent governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
