The Federal Government has condemned the brutal killing of 12 miners by bandits at Unguwar Magro Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, pledged to avenge the murders, assuring that security agencies are on the trail of the perpetrators.

As a measure, the government has banned all mining activities at the scene of the attack until investigations are concluded.

The Minister expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that security agencies will ensure the safety of mines across the country.

Dr. Alake revealed that the Mining Marshals are collaborating with intelligence units and other security agencies to track the bandits, suspected to have infiltrated from neighboring states.

He warned that those involved in illegal mining through violence will face severe consequences.

Preliminary reports suggest that non-Nigerians are funding such operations, and Dr. Alake warned that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted for economic sabotage and waging war against the Nigerian State.

He also cautioned embassies to monitor their nationals’ activities in the mining sector to prevent criminal conduct that could threaten bilateral harmony.

The government is taking decisive action to combat banditry in the mining sector, and Dr. Alake assured that those responsible for the heinous crime will face justice.
