The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man in Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, after tracking him down over social-media posts that urged the military to overthrow the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The agency took into custody Innocent Chukwuma on Thursday following a probe into messages he posted on the X account “@TheAgroman”, in which he declared: “A coup in Nigeria is needed” and urged the armed forces to “suspend the Nigerian Government”.

Security sources said Chukwuma went further in his posts to call for the removal of the ruling party and encouraged public support for a military intervention, language the DSS regarded as inflammatory and a threat to national stability.

A source close to the investigation said the suspect was cooperating with officers as inquiries continue; the service has not yet disclosed whether charges will be preferred.

Authorities warned that calls for violent disruption of constitutional order are treated with utmost seriousness and pledged to pursue all necessary legal steps.
