A Magistrates’ Court in Kuje, Abuja, on Friday granted bail to human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore; Mr Aloy Ejimakor, one of the lawyers representing detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu; the IPOB leader’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu; and ten other defendants.
The court fixed their bail at ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in the same amount.
The 13 defendants were arraigned on charges of inciting public disturbance and breach of peace linked to the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest staged in Abuja on Monday, October 20.
Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu and ten others were arrested during the demonstration and subsequently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, was later arrested on October 23, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, where he had gone to attend Kanu’s ongoing terrorism trial in solidarity.
All defendants are expected to meet the bail conditions before their release, while the case continues.
