Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has concluded arrangements for its 68th Inaugural Lecture, with Professor of Climatology, Prof. Oyenike Mary Eludoyin, set to deliver a lecture on the human impact of climate change and environmental health in Nigeria.
The lecture, titled “The Human Element in the Climate Equation: Navigating Thermal Stress and Environmental Health in a Warming Nigeria,” will hold on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the University Multipurpose Hall.
According to a statement by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola, the event will commence at 2:00 p.m., while guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
The lecture will also be the first inaugural lecture to be presided over by the university’s new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi.
Prof. Eludoyin began her academic career with a Bachelor of Science (Education) in Education/Geography from the then Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, now Adeyemi Federal University of Education, in 1999. She later obtained a Master of Science in Geography (Climatology) from the University of Ibadan in 2003 and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Climatology from the same institution in 2015.
She joined the services of Adekunle Ajasin University in 2005 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Planning Sciences and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2021.
Over the years, she has distinguished herself in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, mentorship and academic advisory services.
An internationally recognised scholar, Prof. Eludoyin has authored a book, contributed chapters to academic publications and published more than 45 peer-reviewed articles in reputable local and international journals.
She has also participated in numerous research projects, with several completed studies awaiting publication while others are currently in progress.
Her academic excellence has earned her several grants, scholarships and professional recognitions, including TETFund sponsorship for her Ph.D. research analysis at Rothamsted Research, Harpenden, United Kingdom, in 2011, and participation in a specialised short course at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, in 2014.
Prof. Eludoyin has attended several academic conferences and research engagements within and outside Nigeria, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom.
She is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Geographical Association (NGA), Nigerian Meteorological Society (NMS), American Geophysical Union (AGU), International Society of Biometeorology (ISB), African Academic Network (AAN), and the National Association of Women Academics (NAWAC).
The university said the inaugural lecture is expected to provide valuable insights into the growing challenges of climate change, thermal stress and environmental health, while contributing to ongoing discussions on sustainable development and climate resilience in Nigeria.
