Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the younger sister of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The victims were identified as Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday while Mrs. John-Paul was taking the children to school.

The abduction comes weeks after the kidnapping of teachers, students and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where two teachers were reportedly killed while other victims remain in captivity.

Confirming the incident, media aide to the minister, Femi Awogboro, issued a statement on behalf of the family.

According to the statement, the 43-year-old Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

The family disclosed that she retired from public service last year after working with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian.

Following her retirement, she reportedly relocated to Ibadan with her children and was making arrangements to join her husband, John Paul, who resides in the United States.

The family stated that security agencies were immediately notified after the incident and had commenced investigations into the abduction.

“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement said.

The family expressed confidence in the efforts of security agencies to secure the release of the victims.

It also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and support ongoing rescue efforts by providing useful information to law enforcement authorities.

The Adelabu family further requested privacy during the difficult period as security agencies intensify efforts to locate and safely rescue Mrs. John-Paul and her children.
