Members and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State have commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the party’s House of Representatives direct primary election held across the state on Saturday.
The exercise, which took place in the 203 wards across the state, witnessed massive turnout of party members amid tight security and widespread commendation from stakeholders who described the process as credible, seamless and transparent.
Monitoring of the exercise in several local government areas showed that party faithful conducted themselves peacefully, while accreditation and voting proceeded without major disruptions.
Some party leaders and aspirants who spoke with journalists praised the political maturity displayed by members, noting that the successful conduct of the exercise reflected growing internal democracy within the party.
Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Fasua, described the primary election as peaceful and well organised, commending party members for maintaining decorum throughout the process.
According to him, voters freely expressed their preferences without intimidation, coercion or violence.
“Akure people have a culture of comportment and orderly conduct without disruption. People came out peacefully to express their views and make their choices,” he said.
Fasua further noted that the turnout of party members across the local government was impressive, adding that the process remained free, fair and credible in the wards monitored.
Also speaking, one of the aspirants for the Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency seat, Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole, applauded the conduct of the primary, describing it as peaceful, less violent and properly coordinated.
She stated that party members participated massively in the exercise in compliance with the guidelines and regulations of the APC.
According to her, the conduct of the primary demonstrated the commitment of the party leadership to transparency and internal democracy.
The primary election was conducted using the direct primary method earlier adopted by stakeholders of the party in the state, with eligible members queuing behind posters of their preferred aspirants at ward centres.
Security operatives were also deployed across strategic locations to maintain order and ensure hitch-free conduct of the exercise.
Party stakeholders expressed optimism that the peaceful conduct of the primaries would further strengthen unity within the APC ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
