President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, in a move seen as part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s electricity sector for improved performance and investment inflow.

The nomination, which has been formally transmitted to the Nigerian Senate for screening and confirmation, follows the resignation of the former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from office to pursue elective political office.

Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over three decades of experience in fiscal policy, economic reform, and institutional development across both public and private sectors.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in governance reform, regulatory restructuring, and strategic advisory for governments and corporations.

He is currently the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, a role in which he coordinates development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, while aligning engagements with public sector stakeholders toward economic and social advancement under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework.

His professional portfolio also includes significant involvement in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in areas relating to regulatory and institutional reforms.

He has worked with key agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, contributing to policy design and sectoral restructuring efforts.

According to the State House, Tegbe’s nomination is expected to reinforce the Federal Government’s ongoing reform agenda in the electricity sector, with emphasis on improving grid stability, expanding access, and attracting sustainable private sector investment.

The President expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, the minister-designate would deploy his extensive experience to drive critical reforms and deliver tangible improvements in power supply, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
