The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday took decisive steps to cleanse its ranks, expelling several high-profile members it described as “characters” working against the party’s interest.
Among those shown the exit door is the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Also expelled are former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose; former National Secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu; Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Austin Nwachukwu; A. Bature, and several others.
The dramatic moment came when the former Deputy National Chairman of the party and Lagos PDP leader, Chief Olabode George, moved the motion for their expulsion.
The Atona Oodua of Yorubaland tabled the motion before thousands of delegates gathered at the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan, venue of the PDP National Convention for 2025.
The announcement sparked wild jubilation among members from across the country, many of whom had arrived the convention venue with anticipation of major disciplinary actions.
The convention ratified the expulsion immediately, sealing the fate of the affected members.
The party hierarchy says the move is aimed at restoring internal discipline, strengthening cohesion, and ensuring that only loyal members drive the party’s agenda ahead of future political contests.
