A devastating road accident occurred at Ajue village, between Ondo and Ore, in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, claiming the lives of 16 people who were burnt beyond recognition.
Five others sustained injuries in the crash, which involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and a Man Diesel truck.
According to Samuel Ibitoye, the Ondo state Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident happened around 8pm on Tuesday.
He disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking caused the tragedy, with one of the vehicles possibly carrying fuel.
Ibitoye stated that three male adults were seriously injured, while two others had minor injuries.
He said the FRSC worked tirelessly to clear the road, a process that took approximately four hours.
The state Commander appealed to motorists to avoid speeding and adhere to all road rules and regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
According to him, “investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.”
