President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to receive further security briefings on the kidnap of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, in Kwara State.
The President, who was scheduled to attend the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and the 7th AU-EU Summit in Angola, suspended his departure on Tuesday following what the Presidency described as “disturbing” security breaches in the two states.
In response to a request from the Governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu directed the military and police to deploy additional personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area.
He also ordered security operatives to pursue and apprehend the bandits who attacked church members during a worship service.
The President is also awaiting a formal briefing from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on Tuesday to commiserate with the government and the families of the abducted 24 schoolgirls.
Reports from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) on the Kwara incident are expected as well.
Reaffirming his earlier directive, President Tinubu charged security agencies to do everything within their power to rescue the kidnapped schoolgirls and ensure their safe return.
