President Bola Tinubu has taken bold steps to reduce the cost of governance in Nigeria, issuing new directives that limit the number of vehicles and security personnel for top government officials.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Thursday, the Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies will now be restricted to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys, with no additional vehicles assigned for movement.
This move is part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to cut government expenditure, which began in January when he reduced his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and on local trips from 50 to 25 officials.
The Vice President’s entourage was also reduced to five officials on foreign trips and 15 for local trips.
The new directive also limits the number of security personnel attached to each official to five, comprising four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
President Tinubu has instructed the National Security Adviser to work with the Military, Paramilitary, and Security Agencies to determine a suitable reduction in their vehicle and security personnel deployment.
These changes are effective immediately, and all affected officials are expected to comply without delay.
This move demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to reducing waste and promoting efficiency in government.
