Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday issued a firm warning to the Akoko Youth Movement over a planned protest, urging restraint and advocating dialogue as a more constructive means of expressing grievances.

The alert follows what the police described as credible intelligence concerning preparations for a demonstration by the youth group in the Akoko region.

While the Command acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to freedom of expression and peaceful protest, it stressed that the security landscape in the state remains fragile and the product of sustained and coordinated efforts by security agencies.

According to the statement, any mass gathering or protest at this sensitive time risks being infiltrated and hijacked by criminal elements, potentially undoing the significant progress made in restoring stability across the state.

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, made it clear that the Command would not tolerate any activity likely to threaten public peace or compromise security.

It urged individuals and groups with political or social concerns to explore lawful and constructive avenues such as engagement with relevant authorities and dialogue.

Furthermore, the police called on parents, guardians, community leaders, and other stakeholders to dissuade youths from engaging in actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

The safety of all residents, the Command noted, remains its top priority, and it reaffirmed its commitment to preserving peace and security throughout the state.
