Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of the Olowo of Owo, Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II, as the new Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The announcement came on Thursday during a special meeting of the Council at the Obas’ Secretariat in Akure, marking the end of the tenure of the outgoing leadership led by the Deji of Akure, Oba (Dr) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundun II.

Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the outgoing Chairman for his dedication and transformative leadership over the past two years, praising his commitment to the state’s development.

He highlighted key achievements made during the tenure, including the resolution of long-standing chieftaincy disputes through the implementation of the Ondo State White Paper on the Hon. Justice C.E.T. Ajama Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

This process led to the elevation and recognition of several traditional stools.

Another significant milestone noted by the Governor was the abolition of the Grade ‘D’ Obas category, which saw all traditional rulers in that classification automatically elevated to Grade ‘C’.

Additionally, he underscored the successful implementation of the 5% statutory allocation of local government funds for traditional rulers, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting the traditional institution.

He further celebrated the completion of the Ondo State Council of Obas’ Secretariat, a long-awaited project that now provides a permanent and functional space for the Council’s deliberations.

Officially dissolving the 11th Council of Obas, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced the formation of the 12th Council, appointing the Olowo of Owo as its new Chairman.

In response, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to strengthen the relationship between the traditional institution and the government.

He commended the Governor’s leadership and highlighted his numerous achievements since assuming office.

The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo, also lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for his unprecedented support for the traditional institution, urging him to extend the same level of cooperation to the new leadership.

Other monarchs in attendance, including the Ahaba of Ajagba, Oba Oluwole Adesayo, offered prayers for the Governor and praised his efforts in infrastructure development, youth employment, and the recent approval of constituency projects for House of Assembly members.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Segun Omojuwa, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Union Matters and Special Duties, Bola Taiwo.
